Spain’s Coronavirus situation is not being considered stable by a large share of EU countries, with many of them advising their citizens not to travel to Spain for non-essential purposes.
Health authorities in Spain have reported 8,618 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, leading Schengen countries to tighten their preventive measures, with some of them even re-imposing restrictions, in a bid to prevent another wave of the deadly virus in their country, coming from Spain, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
At present, only Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Sweden have not advised avoiding travel to Spain due to COVID-19 developments.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that 22 of the following Schengen zone countries decreed recommendations and restrictions, on August 7.
Belgium
Authorities in Belgium have banned travel to Aragon, Lleida, Navarra and Barcelona.
Due to an increasing number in the COVID-19 cases, Belgium’s government recommended to take a PCR test and undergo quarantine persons travelling from Girona, Madrid, Tarragona, Country, La Rioja, Basque, Soria, Castellon, Guadalajara, Murcia, Almeria, Valencia and Balearic Islands, a PCR test as well as quarantine is recommended.
Bulgaria
The country does not apply any restrictions for European Union and Schengen Area countries.
Cyprus
Travellers arriving from Spain, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Greece are obliged to present a negative result on a PCR test, not older than 72 hours.
Croatia
The country recommends avoiding travel to the Czech Republic, Andorra, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Estonia, Portugal and Malta. The country’s authorities also urge to avoid non-essential travel to Spain, the Schengen Zone, and the rest of the EU.
Denmark
Denmark recommends avoiding travel to Spain, Andorra, Romania, Luxembourg and Bulgaria. These countries are also subject to an entry ban, unless for emergency cases.
Estonia
Travellers from Spain, Belgium, Austria, France, Monaco, Malta, and the Czech Republic, will be required to go through mandatory quarantine upon their arrival in Estonia.
Finland
Finland’s citizens are urged not to travel to Spain, Slovenia, France, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands and Andorra.
France
Currently, France has not imposed any restrictions for travellers, anyway travel to Catalonia and Aragon is not recommended.
Germany
Authorities in Germany advise its citizens to avoid travel to Aragon, Catalunya and Navarra, and travellers must go through quarantine or present a negative Coronavirus test.
Greece
The Hellenic Government urges its citizens not to travel to Spain, unless for emergency cases.
Ireland
Citizens of all countries must follow quarantine rules upon arrival in Ireland, except citizens of countries included in the ‘green list’, which does not include Spain.
Italy
The Italian authorities urge against non-essential travel to Spain’s areas where the COVID-19 cases are increasing.
Latvia
Latvia’s government also advises against non-essential travel to Spain. In addition it has decided to suspend air connections with Spain, Luxembourg, Andorra, Romania, Bulgaria, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium and Malta.
Luxembourg
At present, Luxembourg does not apply any restrictions.
Norway
Norway does not recommend travel to Spain, Austria, France, Belgium, Slovenia, the Netherlands and Andorra. Mandatory quarantine is applied for travellers returning to Norway from the countries mentioned above.
Netherlands
The Netherlands’ government recommends only essential travel and complying with quarantine rules upon return from Barcelona as well as the outskirts; Figueres, Sagriá and Vilafant.
Poland
For now, it does not apply special travel restrictions or recommendations.
Portugal
No restrictions for European Union and Schengen Area countries.
United Kingdom
Advises not to travel to Spain. Persons returning from Spain in the UK must undergo quarantine.
Romania
Does not apply any restrictions on travel to Spain.
Slovenia
Slovenia’s authorities have imposed mandatory quarantine for travellers from Aragon, Catalunya, Navarra and the Basque Country. There are no restrictions for those from Andalucia, Asturias, Castile-La Mancha, the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Galicia, Extremadura and Melilla.
Sweden
There have not been announced restrictions on travellers from other European Union countries coming to Sweden.
Switzerland
The Swiss authorities apply compulsory quarantine for persons arriving from Romania, Luxembourg and Spain (excluding Canary and Balearic Islands).
